Imaging Procedures and Findings

This 40 year old woman underwent screening mammography which showed architectural distortion, asymmetric spiculated densities especially in right breast contained lucent center, curvilinear microcalcifications and coarse calcifications. Also you can see bilateral scar markers and elevated nipples.

Discussion

Architectural distortion secondary to surgery may be difficult to distinguish from carcinoma. Initial findings of fat necrosis may be pleomorphic microcalcifications. Spiculated density or focal mass of fat necrosis can also be indistinguishable from carcinoma. Epidermal inclusion cyst may present as a new suspicious post-operative mass. Atypical post-operative calcifications or masses may require biopsy to exclude carcinoma.

Final Diagnosis

Reduction mammoplasty & fat necrosis.
